Campbell Town to retain travel oasis status on Lib’s Midland Highway

2009

The Tasmanian Liberals have moved to assure travellers and Campbell Town businesses that Campbell Town will not be bypassed under a Hodgman Liberal Government and have called for an expansion of parking facilities.

Campbell Town has developed into an outstanding facility with comfort and rest needs provided for as well as a wide choice of food and drink provided by a growing number of businesses.
Campbell Town is a natural halfway house between the North-West Coast and Hobart and motorists have clearly voted for it to remain an on-highway amenity which has obvious side benefits for road safety.

The Tasmanian Liberals have written to the Northern Midlands Council as well as the Minister for Infrastructure calling for the angled parking that currently exists on the eastern side of the highway in the centre of town to be expanded along the whole length of the eastern side of the commercial area of Campbell Town. With new businesses opening regularly and the very wide road reservation in the area, an expansion of the angle parking will deal with frustrating parking issues and will allow everyone a fair go.

The Tasmanian Liberals four lane divided Midland Highway policy has met with wide acclaim and most stakeholders agree with the Tasmanian Liberals that Campbell Town should not be bypassed in the development of this new, safe major highway.
