Public access to an Ansons Bay beach via a ‘wheel chair ramp’ has degraded to a point where even able bodied people are not able to safely access the foreshore.
This unacceptable situation was discussed during a meeting on the foreshore of Ansons Bay between residents, the Mayor and General Manager of the Break O’ Day council, local Members of Parliament and a senior Parks manager.
I have now written to the Minister for Parks and Wildlife advising her of the potential danger to residents and visitors at the North East of Ansons Bay.
In addition to the issue of access, erosion on the beach is another serious issue for the area.
Around 10 properties on Casuarina Lane are in imminent danger of collapsing into Ansons Bay due to severe erosion, a worsening situation which has suffered from a lack of leadership at all levels over the last few years.
I have asked the Minister to ensure that her Department, as managers of the reserve foreshore, work with residents and the council to develop an action plan to protect these properties and the residents now and into the future.
I am already working with residents to set up a formal administrative structure to be able to deal with all levels of government effectively in addressing this issue.
